Measuring article correction response without hiding quality risk
A research synthesis on correction timestamps, severity, verification, and responsible interpretation of response-time measures.
Research question and scope
How can a publisher measure the response to a reported article problem without rewarding rushed or incomplete fixes? This review covers public web content, including factual, metadata, image, and route defects. It excludes incident-response advice for compromised systems and does not define legal correction duties.
Methodology
We reviewed primary government and standards guidance on corrections, incident records, data quality, and public communication. We separated the correction path into report, triage, decision, change, independent verification, and closure. No production incidents or personal data were analyzed.
Findings
A correction record should preserve the affected URL, report time, issue class, evidence, triage time, decision owner, change reference, deployment identifier, verification result, and closure time. Measuring only time to edit can hide a failed deployment or an unverified page.
Severity should determine the response path. A broken decorative image and a materially false claim do not carry the same consequence. The classification needs written examples, an escalation route, and authority boundaries. Fast triage can coexist with a careful correction decision.
Inference boundaries
Short response time does not prove a good correction. Long time does not automatically mean neglect; investigation or approval may be justified. Aggregate measures can also be distorted by case mix and by closing easy reports while complex ones remain open.
Limitations and practical use
This report does not set response targets for OffshoreResourcing.com. The company needs its own severity definitions and accountable owners. Test the record with tabletop cases, verify that closure requires production evidence, and review unresolved cases beside averages.
